Questions, answered.

What is the biggest concert venue in NYC?
Yankee Stadium in Bronx is the biggest venue in the five boroughs, with 46,537 seats for baseball; concert capacity depends on where the stage goes. The biggest indoor room is Madison Square Garden at about 19,500. The largest theater or hall is Radio City Music Hall at 6,000. Just over the river, MetLife Stadium in New Jersey is the biggest in the region at about 82,500.
Franklin Hall capacity vs Irving Plaza: which is bigger?
Franklin Hall is Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia, not New York. It was the Electric Factory until 2018, is run by The Bowery Presents, and holds up to about 2,700 people according to its operator, a bit more than twice the size of Irving Plaza, which holds about 1,200. The closest New York rooms in size are Brooklyn Paramount and Terminal 5.
Which NYC music venues are 21+?
Of the venues in our table, these are 21+ for every show: Superior Ingredients, House of Yes, Brooklyn Bowl, Cellar Dog, Mercury Lounge, TV Eye, The Sultan Room, Comedy Cellar Village Underground, Arlene's Grocery, The Django, Comedy Cellar (MacDougal St), Brooklyn Comedy Collective (Eris Mainstage) and Union Hall. Many other clubs set the age per show, so check the listing before you buy.
Which NYC venues are 18+ or all ages?
18+: Gotham Comedy Club. All ages: MetLife Stadium, Barclays Center, UBS Arena, Prudential Center, Forest Hills Stadium, SummerStage at Rumsey Playfield, Metropolitan Opera House, Hammerstein Ballroom, Kings Theatre, Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage), Zankel Hall (Carnegie Hall), Blue Note and Joe's Pub. Under-18 fans at 18+ and 21+ shows are turned away at the door, and most venues ask for a government photo ID from everyone.
Is Terminal 5 bigger than Brooklyn Steel?
Yes. Terminal 5 holds about 2,800 and Brooklyn Steel about 1,800. Both are general admission; Terminal 5 spreads the crowd across three levels, Brooklyn Steel keeps it on one big floor.
Why do capacity numbers differ between sources?
A room's capacity depends on the setup. A general admission show with the floor cleared holds far more than a seated show, arenas change size for concerts in the round or with the stage at one end, and legal occupancy limits can differ from what a promoter actually sells. We list the venue's own figure where it publishes one and link the source for every number.

Last verified September 30, 2026. Capacities are the venue's own published figures where available, otherwise its ticketing or rental pages or reputable press, linked on every row. Rooms change setups, so treat these as the standard concert configuration. Run a venue and see a number that is off? Send us a correction and we will update it.
